Perplexity Defends Comet AI Against Amazon’s Legal Threats
Perplexity, an AI startup, is pushing back against Amazon's allegations of misuse of technology. Amazon claims Perplexity's Comet AI browser agent violated its terms of service by making unauthorized purchases. A cease-and-desist letter was issued, demanding the removal of Comet from Perplexity's platform.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas took to X to assert the company's stance: "We WOULD be happy to work with Amazon to find a win-win solution. But if they try to block our Comet Assistant and harm our users, we will stand up for them and won’t be bullied by Amazon." The startup argues its tool is designed to enhance online shopping, framing Amazon's actions as an attempt to stifle innovation.
